Almost there...
On St. Patty's day, Miles braved the wonderful world of walking on his own two feet! He managed to get in about four steps on his own. He is now up to about 4-12 steps. He still doesn't have a strong desire to just get up and go...he prefers assistance. Within a couple of days of learning to walk, he ripped holes in his little leather slipper shoes. He has now graduated to real shoes.
Miles is also exploring the verbal world. His favorite word is "uh oh". He knows how and when to say it...which is too cute. He also enjoys the words, "gata" (female cat), "árbol" (tree), and "pato" (duck). "Gata" (we have two female cats) he understands is a cat...or any animal for that matter! The other words he just repeats after you say them...well "tree" is starting to make more sense to him. He also responds to the question, "¿Dónde está la luz?" (Where is the light?). He quickly points up at a light. This started just before Christmas while pointing out Christmas lights.
Miles' love for drumming and percussion has not slowed down. It is still the first thing he wants to do when he gets home...and when he wakes up. He doesn't even like to let go of the drumsticks for a bath...so they have been bathed a few times as well.
I will be posting some pictures soon of our weekend trip to GrandBob and Abuela's house for my grandfather's birthday. For now you can enjoy some of Miles' recent masterpieces while at daycare!

Not Quite Traveling Miles
Well Miles is not officially walking yet. His teachers at school have seen him take a step...and they know he can walk...he just chooses not to yet. We certainly aren't pushing this "milestone". He happily stands on his own and plays his drum set while standing (which is the most important thing to him).
A couple of weeks ago Miles had his one year appointment. Miles had just gotten over a stomach virus and strep throat for the second time in one month. Being a normal mother this concerned me a bit. I was assured this was perfectly normally this time of year, especially since he is in daycare. They keep telling me..."it's either now, or he will miss a lot of school in kindergarten". So I have dealt with it, in every sense of the word. Andy and I have had the stomach virus a couple of times within the last month...greedy little daycare germs!
Having been sick, Miles was only in the 3rd percentile for growth....BUT 50th for height. The doctor seemed only slightly concerned since Andy has a small build. We had been having trouble transferring Miles from homemade purees to finger foods and table foods. He simply threw up every time. The doctor suggested we see a speech therapist (not for speech) to stimulate Miles' mouth. He also wanted Miles to be on pediasure for the next three months to see if that would help his weight gain.
After returning home from the doctor I was very nervous about the challenge ahead, getting Miles to eat...and going to a therapist. I think Miles is very smart though and heard the conversation. That night I had tried to feed him like normal. He was given a couple of spoons to promote feeding himself. He even had toys to distract him while the food went in the mouth...not interested. When the food did go in...instant gagging. SO I didn't push it. I simply sat on the couch with him, still worried about the lack of food he had ingested, while I ate a slice of leftover pizza. He grabbed for my pizza, and I didn't stop him. There hasn't been a problem with eating since! He now eats most anything. Pizza is by far his favorite food though...and I agree with him. We don't even have to see the therapist now!
He is growing fast. He amazes us everyday with his knowledge. Today he crawled over to the cat food bag, drug it across the room to the cat food bowl, and tried to pour them some food. He was so pleased with himself that he did it several times today...needless to say the cats have a new best friend. Miles does adore them, and I certainly can't blame him!
